Stake Women’s Conference

In construction, sistering is when you attach a new board alongside an existing one to strengthen it. For example, if a floor joist is weak, carpenters “sister” another joist to it, so the two work together to carry the load. The old board may not be strong enough on its own, but when joined with another, both are sturdier.

Just as builders use sistering to strengthen a weak board, Christ “sisters” us and in turn we can “sister” or each other through ministering. Sometimes life’s weight — trials, grief, doubts, or even daily stresses — can feel too heavy for one person to carry. On their own, they may sag under the pressure. But when another steps in to walk beside them, offering prayers, encouragement, and Christlike love, they are no longer carrying the load alone.

Ministering is our opportunity to “sister” others:

  • We don’t replace their role or remove their responsibility, but we come alongside them.
  • We add strength through presence, compassion, and service.
  • Together, we can withstand more than we ever could alone.

Through ministering, we do the same — we reinforce one another, so none of God’s children have to bear their burdens alone.

One way we did this during the women’s conference was by learning about the different cultures and experiences people have had thanks to the immense diversity we have here in the Mesa Stake! Today was a day of celebration of that diversity! We learned Tongan and Mexican dances and the ASL version of the song of Love One Another.

We heard spiritually uplifiting messages from a couple leaders in our area. We also did some service projects for Cici’s Hope Center and Mercy Gilbert Medical Center.

We enjoyed delicious food from the Tongan ward and incredible tres leches cake, but above all we enjoyed being together, learning about each other, and growing together as Sisters in Christ.
